Benthic Scuba and Snorkel Centre along with a number of local businesses are partnering up to build a 9,200 square ft. facility that will house the scuba company. The location is on Croft Dr. next to the On The Green Indoor Golf.
Benthic is currently located in Windsor’s east end and specializes in SCUBA training and equipment. A second company CPR Depot will move into the facility too.
The facility will include a special 40 x 20 2,000 sq. ft. in ground diving pool.
The pool will be in a glass enclosure, built in Toronto, that will be visible from the expressway.
The Sylvestre Group will be handling the construction of the project and financial help from Windsor Family Credit Union.
“We’ve been planning this for a number of years,” said owner/operator Ron Waxman. “We need our own facilities and as you can imagine, it’s a pretty large project to take on.”
Currently, the company, who Waxman runs with his wife Marion. offers diving lessons once a week at Adie Knox pool in Windsor’s west end.
“We’re kind of at the mercy of the city and the hours we are able to provide are limited,” said Waxman. “People are calling and unfortunately, if you wish to learn, it has to be within a particular time slot. Having our own pool allows for much more flexibility 365 days a year.”
Waxman says Lakeshore is a great place for relocating, especially with a lower tax rate and accessibility to the highway. It will be one of the premier places in Canada offering these services.
“We delighted with this facility coming to Lakeshore,” said Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain. “It’s another jewel in the crown so to speak…there is a growing interest in the sport.”
Construction is slated to start this week and expected to last six months.
